It’s important for residents to know car insurance requirements in Hawaii. The following are the coverage types and limit amounts required for auto insurance in Hawaii; however these minimums are just a starting point, and you may want to consider increasing your coverage limits or purchasing additional coverage for further protection. 

  • Bodily Injury Liability to cover injury or death related expenses in an accident when you’re at fault – $20,000 limit per person/$40,000 limit per accident 
  • Property Damage Liability to cover property damage expenses in an accident when you’re at fault – $10,000 limit 
  • Personal Injury Protection to cover medical or funeral expenses if you and/or your passengers are hurt in an accident – $10,000 limit
