Car insurance requirements in New Hampshire

New Hampshire doesn’t require drivers to carry auto insurance. However, these are the coverage types and minimum coverage limit amounts available for auto insurance in New Hampshire if one chooses to purchase it: 

  • Bodily Injury Liability to cover injury or death related expenses in an accident when you’re at fault – $25,000 limit per person/$50,000 limit per accident 
  • Property Damage Liability to cover property damage expenses in an accident when you’re at fault – $25,000 limit 
  • Uninsured Motorist Coverage to cover medical expenses in an accident when the other driver is at fault but doesn’t have any car insurance – If you buy auto insurance, limits will be equal to liability coverage limits 
  • Underinsured Motorist Coverage to cover medical expenses in an accident when the other driver is at fault but doesn’t have enough liability insurance – Grouped with uninsured motorist coverage 
  • Medical Payments to cover medical or funeral expenses if you and/or your passengers are hurt in an accident – $1,000 minimum limit required if you buy liability coverage
