Our experience with spam
When we first started Rate Retriever, we wanted to create a better car insurance shopping experience, so we set out to fix the major problems plaguing car insurance consumers today.
As our team researched car insurance quote aggregators, brokers, and marketplaces, we noticed that most other comparison sites required personal contact information: email address, home address and phone number. This seemed strange and unnecessary, especially when we had to navigate to the end-provider’s website and provide this information again to be contacted by our chosen provider.
It soon became clear why these sites wanted contact information – emails, texts, and calls from unknown numbers started to bombard us day and night, for weeks.
Not only was this tidal wave of outreach annoying – it was unwanted. Not once did we actually ask to be contacted by third parties.
This was when one of Rate Retriever’s core principles was cemented: we would be the spam-free way to compare car insurance providers.
Why spam is such an issue in the insurance industry
Unfortunately, one of the most lucrative ways to run an insurance comparison site is to sell the personal information of its users to whole bunch of third parties. Third party call centers, insurance agents, and others will buy contact info as leads for their business, and reach out to these leads hoping to turn them into paying customers.
This practice can become very annoying and frustrating to the individual, especially if they did not give their consent to be contacted (or didn’t know they gave their consent to be contacted).
What Rate Retriever is doing to help
At Rate Retriever, we promise our users that we will not spam them after they use our comparison tools*. We keep this promise by:
- Limiting the information we collect – we do not require you to share your phone number or other personal contact information. We do pass along your profile information to our insurance partners in order to give you more accurate results and enhance your shopping experience.
- Transparency at every turn – we will do our best to ensure you know when you’re leaving our site.
- Data storage policy – we only store data that helps us improve our site (not to sell to third parties).
